NOTE: In the information menu above, only the links that are BLUE are working.
The other links will be connected up in time, thanks.

My interest started with my own family history  "Silcock's Fair"  in Lancashire back in 1965 when my granddad Herbie Silcock gave me 6 photos of various Traction Engines and Rides etc. and from then on I've collected information and photos about Silcock's Fair ever since.

Since 2002 we have also started to collect and archive the information about the Lancashire Section as well, and since retirement in 2008 this as allowed us more time to do this.

This website 'Wakes Week' will allow us to share with you what we have achieved over the years, and hopefully allow us to give you an in site to the way of life and understanding of the Lancashire Showmen and their families and equipment since the mid 1850s.

This website will concentrate on what's happening on the Fairgrounds in the Northwest of England, in the business called the "Lancashire Section" and this is made up of Lancashire, Cheshire, & North Wales.
We will be also be including parts of South Cumbria & West Yorkshire.

There will also be references to none Lancashire Fairgrounds, i.e. Fairs in other sections.

There will be information about the history of the Lancashire fairgrounds, and also the Showmen's Guild, this is the Showmen's Trade Union, founded in 1889 in Salford.

The Worlds Fair the Showman's newspaper, founded in 1904 based in Oldham.

The Lancashire Showmen's Football Club, founded in 1907 at Salford.

The Showmen's Fellowship of Great Britain started in Manchester in 1915 .

I do hope you find this website enjoyable, helpful and interesting and we would like your help in the task of collecting and archive more information about the Lancashire Section.

We would also like to hear your comments about this website 'Wakes Week' good or bad.
If you wish to contribute articles, photo, or any other information regarding the Lancashire Section, then please do contact us.
All contributions will be acknowledged and archived.

Thank you.
